Molar Tooth Pain After Cavity Was Filled. Suggestions?
Hi I had a cavity in my molar tooth visible through an X ray taken by the dentist he did the freezing test and since I had sensation in the tooth did a filling. Next 3/4 day's I experience some pain which he had told me to expect then it was all going great. Its been a little over 2 months now the same tooth has started to hurt quite badly need to take pain killers what could be the reason for this pain? and whats the solution? I have taken an appointment for Tues with my dentist but would still like to know. Thank you
Pain in the tooth indicates infection, an infected tooth need to be root canal treated to save it permanenetly.
There could be chances of reinfection of the tooth beneath the restoration, or the filling is placed close to the pulp tissue causing irritation to the pulp.
Visit to the Dentist get a checkup done, take an x-ray of the tooth, depending upon which the treatment will be decided.
As you have mentioned you cannot visit the Dentist right now, take tab augmentin 625mg and tab aceclofenac twice for three days.
Tooth pain in your case is due to noxious stimuli to pulp.
It could be due to dislodged filling, any microscopic restoration fracture.or bacterial infection reaching the pulp tissue .
please revisit your dentist as you have planned get clinical evaluation done and then if required you can go for a temporary dressing immediately and then after two weeks a permanent filling again, based on your pulpal response.
If the pain restarts you can get RCT done as a final treatment for that tooth.

Hello and Welcome to HCM,
Thanks for writing to us.
pain in tooth indicates tooth infection.
it is essential that you make an appointment with your dentist so that the actual cause of the problem can be identified and resolved. It is not wise to continue treating the symptoms with antibiotics on a long term basis, as this can make the situation worse by failing to treat the cause.
visit the dentist get an x-ray done.
Hope this helps you.
Wishing you good health...
Regards.

I understand that you had a cavity in your molar which was filled. You mentioned that the dentist took an xray before filling the cavity. Did the dentist mention if the cavity was deep and close to pulp? Did you get pain or sensitivity to hot and cold food post filling?
There is a possibility that the cavity was deep and close to pulp which is why you are getting pain now with the same tooth. i would advise you to go to your dentist and take an xray. Clinical examination and xray will tell if you need a root canal treatment with the filled tooth. Also check if other teeth adjacent to the tooth are fine.Sometimes pain can be referred too.
Hello,
It seems like the cavity is too deep and is involving the pulp that is why inspite of filling it you are experiencing pain. The tooth should be root canal treated and a crown should be placed over it. The other option is to get the tooth extracted. Consult an Endodontist at the earliest.
The pain in your already filled tooth is due to re-infection of periapical region.
Infected pulp has to be removed completely.
Pus if present has to be removed.
Depending on the severity of infection, root canal treatment/pulpotomy has to be done.
Prevent the filled tooth from food lodgement too.
Take complete course of antibiotics too.
Rinse your mouth using chlorhexidine mouthwash.
Get a scaling done.
Take care.
