My 90 year old friend for the past many years has difficulty choking occasionally, feeling as if she cannot breathe, occurs when eating, cannot talk and feels like she will die. She has been treated for GERD but that does not solve this problem. Having consulted at least two ENT doctors and experiencing a scary incident this am while eating toast with jam, she is anxious to know what kind of specialist she should consult. Her primary care physician referred her to a gastroenterologist who treated her for the GERD but did not reach any conclusion with regard to the choking. We live in a community with many specialists, just not sure who to consult. Thanks so much for your guidance.
