My Daughter Has Had Three Surgeries To Shorten One Leg

My daughter has had three surgeries to shorten one leg and lengthen the other. Her second surgery was to shorten right femur by approx 1 cm in June 2012 after an Epiphysiodesis a year prior. In 2013 she had left femur lengthened by approx 1 cm and because it wasn't healing, had it re-done in 2014. now she has two metal plates and screws in both legs. I'm trying to get plate and screws removed from right femur as they've been there nearly three and half years. what could consequences be leaving them in so long?
