My Dog Won't Eat. Is He Dying?

My beautiful little buddy, "MAX", a 10 year old Shih-Tzu, has had a heart murmur since a pup. Now, he's developed an atrial fibrilation on top of the murmur. His little heart is beating 300 beats per minute, should be 120. He's on 3 meds to try to re-regulate his heart back to 120'ish. It's been 4 days. He won't eat, anything! He drinks water but not often enough, usually turning his head away from the dish. We've tried all his favorite foods, nothing. Tomorrow will be 5 days. Is my dog dying? Any VET'S out there?? Any dog lovers out there?? Anyone gone through what I'm going through now?? Please write back with advice, I don't want him to die yet, anything may help. Thanks folks, Steve in Toronto.

I am so sorry, Steve. I know how worried you must be. Have you tried feeding him some very soft food? My dog is older, too, and I just discovered that his teeth and gums aren't in great shape and he just can't eat anything that he has to chew. I almost let him starve before I realized the problem. You could try giving him some puppy replacement milk, to get him eating again. You can buy it at Wal-Mart or PetSmart. Get a large syringe (no needle) and squirt some in his mouth. You probably need to take him back to you vet today, too. I really wish you and Max the best. It's a tough time, I know.
