Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father is 87 years old. He has been the primary care giver for my mother with Alzheimers disease for the past 3 years. 2 weeks ago he was admitted to the hospital . . he was very confused and weak, frail and off balance. He was falling and would get the day and time of day mixed up. Upon admittence they found his blood levels to be very off. His creatinine and calcium were very high, his magnesium and potassium very low. He became very agitated and aggressive, combative and angry. They have stabilized his levels but he still experieince bizarre personality changes. His mind is completely altered. He remembers nothing of why he was admitted and has bizarre stories to go along with why he thinks he is in the hospital. Medically he is stabilized and they will be releasing him to rehab tomorrow. I don't know if he can go home to my mother, with her Alzheimers if his mind continues to behave this way. Why the confusion and paranoia? What caused this behavior and will it continue? Is it permanent?
