There's no risk with Colonoscopy itself.During this procedure, if the doctors find something wrong, they operate immediately. In some cases like in the case of your father, bags have to be attached. So it's not colonoscopy that has caused the problem but the problem was found during this procedure and that's why operation was done.

Danny, there is indeed risks associated with having a colonoscopy done. Infection, bleeding, bowel perforation (requiring emergency surgery) are some of the risks. As with any procedure requiring drugs and/or anesthesia, there can be reactions to any of these. If one has other health issues, these can most definitely increase the risks during colonoscopy. Any invasive procedure to the body carries risks - period. Because the AMA 'recommends' regular colonoscopies does not insure no risks; nor does this mean otherwise healthy people should line up for invasive 'recommended' procedures. (Upwards of $3,000 plus) I have heard accounts (always third party accounts) of someone having a routine colonoscopy and 'they found suspicious or precancerous cells.' 'It saved their life.' When asked about this person's overall health, none of them had particularly good health at all.
