My Husband Found Out That He Has A Shadow On One Of His Lungs

My husband just found out that he has a shadow on one of his lungs. He recently had a bad cold also. In the past, he has had pneumonia and pleurisy. He has no symptoms at all and feels good, no coughing etc. We are worried sick. He has to go back in for a repeat chest x-ray next Friday. Any ideas? Thank you!!

Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your husband's situation and problem.
Any lung insult whether tuberculosis or pneumonia or Pulmonary contusions heal by following mechanism.
1. Fibrosis
2. Calcification
3. Both
And any of the above will remain as it is through out the life.
So possibility of fibrosis or calcification is more in your husband's case because he is asymptomatic at present.
For confirmation, he should go for CT thorax.
As CT thorax is more superior for the diagnosis of healed lesion.
Repeat chest x ray after 10 days is also recommended. If lesion is same then no need to worry. It is old, healed scar lesion only.
