My Husband Had Knee Replacement May 18 2015. Was Doing

My husband had knee replacement may 18 2015. Was doing great! Came home and nurse called dr said looks like infection. Dr gave antibiotics. Got better. On August 1 got bug bite all over lower legs & behind knee. Went into orthopedic dr to have a minor surgery "trigger finger" before surgery nurse said your bug bites are infected. Did surgery all went good. Aug 11 went to kaiser about bug bites. Was put on antibiotic 7 days was worried about knee dr said. Sept 28 came home from work couldn't walk. Called orthopedic dr that did his knee & we came in on 29th. He drained it & fluid looked really bad he said. Antibiotic was given. Dr called next day said come in & don't eat after midnight. Surgery was done to replace the pads & had a infectuious dr put him on IV drip for 6 weeks.
Do you think during the trigger finger surgery antibiotics should have been given to come home?? My husband is 65
