My Husband Has COPD And Gets Chest Infections That Are

My husband has COPD and gets chest infections that are hard to clear. He has other health problems but recently after coughing up phlegm for some weeks and then developed fluid on his lung (quite painful) the doctor has put him on a course of Amoxycillin + Clavulanic Acid. He is wheelchair bound after breaking his femur in Feb 2013 needing 3 operations so his recovery has been slow. Of course we are told age (74), Diabetes, and heart condition (Quadruple bypass in 2007) all contribute to this. He is in the second week of a 2 week course and is a little better. Is it safe for have further courses of this drug until this fully clears up and he get rid of the fluid. We are going back to our GP next week but such info is good for me (wife).
