My Husband Hit Himself In The Eye This Morning Doing

My husband hit himself in the eye this morning doing yard work. He was trying to break a 5 inch limb in diameter in half and it snapped and him so hard in the eye it knocked him down. He has a bit of a hematoma above the lid and broken capillaries are evident in the sclera of the eye. He is seeing black dots now and wondering if he can wait to be seen by his ophthalmologist on MConday or does this sound like something more serious that cannot wait?
