My Husband Is Diabetic But It Has Been Controlled For

My husband is diabetic but it has been controlled for years until all of a sudden his feet started scaling on the bottom and hurtin tremendously. We both work on roofs all day and our feet get damp a lot in our shoes but I do not have any thing like that going on with mine. Is there something I can do to help him? His feet hurt constantly to the point where he can barely walk on them.
