My Husband Is In The Hospital With An Infection In

My husband is in the Hospital with an infection in his chin and left side of his face and throat. They are giving him all diffierent types of antibotics but they are not helping they have even went as far as cut two openings in his face to drain see if it would drain and bring some of the swelling down. Now they are talking surgery. All of his teeth have been removed years earlier. He had Nerve blocks and Steriods put in his lower back on Aug 6th. What could have made an infection this bad?
