My Husband Who Is Paralyzed On His Right Side From

My husband who is paralyzed on his right side from a stroke and spends alot of time in bed suffers from constipation and then with the help of Citracel, Senokot and some fruit he will get terrible diareah and stomach cramps. He was just in the hospital two weeks ago for a severe stool impaction. Since he came home he had maybe three small stools and now he has diarrhea cramps again. What should I do? Should I continue to give him the medication for constipation or should I contact his doctor?
