Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother is 80 years old. She was diagnosed with emphysema at age 55 at has COPD. She's on oxygen 24/7 at around 3 (?) output. Her current doctor told her that she's got AKI. She went to her local ER and they told her all her test for AKI were fine and clear. This is very concerning to our family. She has also seemed very confused at times. Speaking with her today she has decided that she doesn't want to know why the hospital and her doctor have deferring options about her AKI. I guess my question is this …..if you have emphysema and COPD is AKI another added complication of the lung disease? If it's just another complication of her existing disease we will accept it and take things as they come. If, the AKI is unrelated then we need to make sure she seeks the treatment necessary. Thank you for your time.
