my son has air in his throat . i have to take him to an emt. what could be wrng i took my teenage son to doc he did a ct scan found air in a sealed part of his throat. he is sending me to a ent doc should i be worried?
presence of air in throat indicates air is leaking or there is suppurative infection from wind pipe. it is bit worrying consult ent surgeon get treated.
If your son had throat infection with some swelling in the throat and difficulty in swallowing for which a CT scan was done - then there are chances that infection might have spread into the surrounding structures giving rise to air pockets. But, if there was no previous history of infection except for difficulty in swallowing then there are chances of a weak area in the neck which has trapped the air (laryngocoele). Either of these above conditions require a thorough evaluation by a good ENT specialist.
