My Two Year Old Son Has Been Having Ear Discharges. What Needs To Be Done?
Dear doctor , My two year old son has been having ear discharges from his left ear since the last two days. It is non-smelly, cream in colour, and gooey in consistency. He has no fever or any other discomfort, except when I try to clear the discharge with an ear bud. He doesn t let me touch the ear, but that s been the case always. I ve never been able to clean his ears, or nose ever since he was born, even while he would be sleeping. So is this the pent up wax coming out or some infection that I need to get treated please? What needs to be done? Smitha R Athani Mumbai
Hello Smitha R Athani
Welcome to health care magic forum
Ear discharge is due to infection or perforation of ear drum. Most common cause of such problem in children is breast feeding while lying in the bed. as milk enter Eustachian tubes & get infected & blokes the tubes ,leading to ear discharge. So consult ENT surgeon & get investigated & treated
Wish you good health

Welcome to Healthcaremagic Forum,
What you thought is right, in the absence of any pain/fever/cold if there is a yellowish or creamy color, it can be wax itself more unlikely of an eardrum perforation. To have a peace of mind, you can definitely get his ears checked up by a good ENT specialist.
Welcome back to HealthcareMagic Forum,
This does not happen usually. Whenever the excess wax liquefies it comes out in the form of yellowish or brownish discharge, mostly after bathing. If you are really bothered about that, you can as well consult a good ENT specialist, get the ears cleaned and look for the status of the ear drum.
