My Wife Had A Lower Wisdom Tooth Removed By A

My wife had a lower wisdom tooth removed by a dental surgeon two weeks ago. Her gum has been very slow to heal and she has returned to the doctor three or four times. He has treated it with some type of medicine that tastes strongly of clove. She still has a large cavity in her gums that is open inside, yellow in color and very painful. Today the doctor gave her a syringe and told her to was it out with saline. He did not place any medicine in the wound today and it has begin hurting very bad. What further action, if any does she need to take?
