My 1 year and 10 months old daughter had stool routine test and the result came oit with: microscopic erythrocyte 1-2 (ref: 0), microscopic fungi: spora (+), budding spora (+) (negative), digestive amylum: positive (ref: negative), digestive fat: positive (ref: negative), digestive fibers: positive, faecal occult blood: positive (ref: negative). What does that mean?
The interpretation of stool test is as follows: Presence of erythrocytes (blood cells) in stool sample can be due to bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract especially lower GIT. Bleeding can be due to infection, polyp or ulceration. Presence of fungus spores is not considered positive for fungal infection of GIT since fungi can be present as contamination. Presence of amylase, fat droplets suggests malabsorption. Fat droplets due to its malabsorption. Presence of occult blood in stool suggests bleeding in the GIT.
Thus, cause of bleeding and malabsorption has to be found out. Consult your pediatrician for clinical correlation and appropriate treatment.
