Need Medication For Cough & Cold Leading To Wheezing

Dear sir,
My son has cough and cold. If cough gets increase in the night he is not able to breath properly and comes wheezing. Hence doctor prescribed us Asthalin (5ml twice in a day) and Cetirizine syrup. (2.5ml only in night). Shall I continue that whenever he feels cold & cough? I am afraid of side effects for regular use of both the medicines. Please advise me..

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Recurrent cough, cold, wheezing etc need thorough evaluation to rule out asthma.
All these symptoms suggest allergic component and asthma can cause similar symptoms.
So better to rule out asthma in his case.
Regular treatment with inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid is the treatment of choice for asthma. Asthalin is short acting beta 2 agonist (SABA). It's action lasts for only 1-2 hours. So repeated dosing is required. And hence side effects like palpitations, tremors etc are more.
Newer long acting beta 2 agonist (LABA) are safe for long term use.
So discuss all these with your doctor and start appropriate treatment.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wishing good health to your son.
Thanks.
