Need Medicine For Swollen Lips

I am using desonide ointment 0.05% to heal my swollen lips. My dermatologist thinks I may have had an allergic reaction to something I used in my hotel room while on vacation. ( I think it was a complimentary packet of make up remover). Not so sure my dermatologist prescribed the right medication for me as the swelling has not gone done, my lips are still very red, and the information about this drug says do not swallow or get on mouth or lips! Help me I m nervous about my condition. I ve never had anything like this before. Thanks for helping ! Jill from PA.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have Allergic ANGIOEDEMA of the lips that can be due to allergic reaction to any bug bite or any food or medicine or any irritant present in air..
Swelling occur due to fluid accumulation beneath the skin of lips..
Nothing to worry, consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can advise you to take antihistamines like diphenhydramine (Benadryl) or levocetrizine.
A short course of steroids like cortisone can also be advised..
Apply Calamine lotion over the lips to soothe the lips..
Cold compresses can also help..
Do not bite or press the lips..

In case of recurring episodes of swelling the Allergist can advise RAST test which a blood test to rule out IgE specific antibodies for specific allergens, if food allergy is suspected food challenge test can be done.
Once the allergen is detected Immunotherapy can be given to reduce the symptoms of allergy attack,.
Preventing exposure to allergen can prevent allergic attack..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
