Need Treatment For Fever With Sore Throat And Chills

My 5 year old daughter (45 tall, 46 pounds) has had a fever for the last few hours. It was 102.7 three hours ago. We gave her children s acetaminophen, a lukewarm bath, and it dropped to 101.7 then, but it s back up to 102.7 now. She has a sore throat and chills and seems very tired. She s vomited one time, but it seemed to be mucus, although she s not coughing. Should we take her to the ER?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have fever with sore throat and chills. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like sinusitis or viral pharyngitis. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test and CT scan to confirm the diagnosis and rule out strep throat . Doctor may prescribe anti viral drugs (acyclovir) or anti bacterial ( amoxicillin ) depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestant and expectorant . For now do warm saline gargles and take steam thrice a day . Avoid taking spicy and sharp food. Avoid cold carbonated beverages.
