Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
In growth of toe nails is common in great toe nail and is caused by tight shoes, improper nail trimming of the nails, fungal infection or injury causing the toe nail to ingrow. I suggest you get proper treatment for the fungal infection of the nail which is for at least 6 weeks. (As nail infection takes longer to heal)
Ingrown toe nails can be prevented by the following:
1. Regular trimming of nails, edge of nail should be away from skin, meaning prevent in turning of the nail into the skin in the corners.
2. Avoid tight shoes
3. Keep feet clean and dry.
I hope I have answered your question satisfactorily, Thanks.
