Hi Doctor, I am married and since 15 days i did not get period and went to check with gyne and she advice me to make urine test and found the sugar present i.e. trace and no pregnancy shown doctor advice me to have blood testing in post & pre blood test i need your advice the sugar present i.e. trace is what level of sugar is it?
Hello,
Urine dipstick test is a quick way to know if there are (1) obvious infections with raised white cells and bacteria, like UTI; (2) losing protein in the urine (proteinuria); (3) sugars present; (4) red blood cells or casts.
It is difficult to quantify the amount of sugar or protein lost but it provides a grading from 1+ to 4+ and the higher the number, the higher the amount lost in urine. This then needs to be followed up with other tests.
Trace sugar is nothing to worry unless you have diabetes, or a family history of diabetes, or you previously had blood glucose tests that were high. If any of the above is a possibility, a 12h fasting blood sugar with a post prandial sugar test will be required. You can get this done and if normal, no other tests will be required.
Thanks.
