Hi Doc. I have a bloodclot in my brain, caused by a major stroke, causing problems with my vains not getting enough oxygen to my brain. Does have severe sleep apnee. Do I need to go for the brain op to remove the clot, as it is giving me strong headaches and short memory. I have learnt there is risks involved?

Hello,

I am afraid that the picture you describe doesn't fit. If you had a stroke due to a blood clot blocking an artery in the brain and as a result, a part of the brain doesn't receive oxygen supply as you seem to say, then I don't see why brain surgery has been recommended to you. If a stroke has happened no surgery can reverse it. If not intervened inside at most 6 hours through procedures called thrombolysis and thrombectomy the damage is done, no brain op can do anything more about it.

So if you were recommended surgery it must be for something else. Perhaps there is a narrowing of the blood vessels in the neck, or there is some blood vessel malformation in the brain which needs to be intervened. In that case, more info is needed, imaging reports. These are complicated decisions needing to weigh risks of surgery vs conservative treatment, many tests are necessary. So please write again providing medical reports in order for us to provide a responsible opinion.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olsi Taka,
