On Progesterone, Estradiol. Now Have To Take Higher Dose Of It. Will I Become Addicted To The Medicament?

I have been taking Progesterone for a few years now along with Estradiol 0.5mg . I recently got on Medicare and no longer have a private Dr. I see a P.A at a community health center and my new script for Progesterone is 100mg everyday instead of 1 pill the first 10 days of the month. I am worried that 1 everyday is far to much, so,,... this month I took just 10 of the pills to get back to what I have normally taken for a long time. Please clue me in

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
hello
welcome to HCM
progesterone and estradiol are harmone medications which are present in body
required for various functions of organ systems mostly reproductive and genital...

what is the indication for which you are taking treatment is important and do you have any side effects of these drugs like head ache, mood changes, pain behind eyes, breast tenderness, weight gain, weakness, nausea, vomitting, jaundice, unusual vaginal bleeding
chest pain,palpitations
vision problems etc...
when you experience any of these you have to consult the gynaecologist to change the dose or drugs..
you dont get addicted to these drugs but should not be stopped abruptly
should be weaned or tapered and stopped on advice of the dr
bye take care

General & Family Physician Dr. Jose Ignacio Artero Munoz's  Response
Hello. The progesterone dose prescribed is not high (some people take 200 mg per day).If your doctor has prescribed you that dose is because the positive effects outweigh the adverse effects.Besides the drug does not cause addiction.
Accordingly, I recommend continuing the prescription of your gynecologist until the next revision.
I wish you good health.
