Ovarian Cyst With Thick Septation On Right Ovary. Are Septated Complex Cysts Malignant?
I'm 59 years old with a complex ovarian cyst with septation on my right ovary. My grandmother had ovarian cancer in the 1930's, altho none of her children or any of my cousins had ovarian cancer. The cyst is very large, but they are worried because the septation is somewhat thick. Any insight? Any advice. I am scheduled for a CA 125 blood test, and have already had the ultra sounds done, and they want them redone so a gyn can read them Is it true most septated complex cysts are malignant? Roseann

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.
As you have risk factor of family history of ovarian tumor, and USG is showing septations, which are thick, need to evaluate for malignancy. As you have already planned for CA-125, better to get it done. Most of septated cyst with thick septe and solid content with in cyst are more suggestive of malignancy. few exceptions are also there. Consult your doctor for examination and management. Hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries. Wish you good health. Take care.
