Over Weight, Depression, Junk Food. Chances Of Diabetes? Any Suggestion?

My granddaughter is overweight, by at least 75 lbs...she refuses to talk about it...she is a senior, carrying college courses....she is very bright, ..she doesn't socialize with kids at school that I know of...just a few friends around the house...her mother & father have been divorced since she has been 2. Mother remarried when she was 5. I feel her weight is depressing her, so she eats, the more she eats the worse it gets...I fear she may be diabetic...she is 1/2 Mexican...all she eats is junk food!... Is there a book a some link that would help me & my granddaughter, along with her mom? I'm sure my granddaughter must have some depression issues....my email

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
its very much possible that your grand daughter may be having depression and that is leading to her being over weight. That should be certainly taken care of, and that can possible with the help of Psychiatry consultation. There are good medication like bupropion fluoxetine which can improve her depression with increasing her weight further and also try to start on her cognitive behavioural therapy which will focus her on weight loss.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
