Overweight, Have Lengthy Periods When Trying To Lose Weight. Were Controlled While On Birth Control. Which Hormones Should Be Checked?
My period like to run really long. My doctor put me on birth control(Levora 15/30) and I ve been taking them for the past 5 years. I tried to go off and I didn t have a period for three months then my period was regular for two months and then it started running long again when I started to lose weight. So, I had to start the birth control again. What hormones should I get checked? Is there a link between me losing weight and having long periods ? I am overweight and I m trying to lose to help my periods be more controlled.
Hi goldngr, being overweight can lead to lots of health related problems. Losing weight could be one of the ways to get your periods to normalise but with your symptoms I feel you need to get your LH, FSH and prolactin levels done also get an USG abdomen and pelvis done to rule out any PCOD as this condition itself gives rise to increase in weight and irregular periods.Visit your gynecologist and discuss this possiblity with her. IN the meanwhile I would strongly recommend that you try and lose the excess weight and try to get as close to as your physiological range.
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
Loss of weight is often associated with a delay in the periods. It can also be associated with a thyroidhormone deficiency. You can get your thyroid levels evaluated along with serum progesterone and estrogen after consulting your gynecologist.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
