Overweight Person Had Rapid Heart Beat But ECG Is Normal And So Is BP. On Low Carb Diet. Is It Due To Dehydration?

For the ;ast few days I have been experiencing a loud and heavy heart beat when I try to sleep. I had an ECG ran, heart xrays and blood panels and the doctor said nothing was out of the ordinary. My blood pressure was 138/85. I walk 2-3 miles a day. I have been on a very low carb diet for 1.5 months and lost 30 lbs. I am a type 2 diabetic with all sugar levels in range and tested regularly. I am overweight but do not smoke and I am a 36 year old male. I thought it was an electrolyte deficiency because of the diet I am on, but I have been taking potassium and magnesium pills and drinking more fluid. The doctor did take a urine sample and thought I could be slightly dehydrated. Any thoughts?

Hi,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic,

You are Over weight and Diabetic and going for intentional weight loss which is good the only thing which is advisable is to go slow not more than 1-2 kg per month as rapid weight loss is not advisable.

The symptoms of loud and heavy heart beat may be due to irregular heart beat of fast heart rate but your ECG was normal but single resting ECG can miss the abnormality.

This can be detected by going for Holter monitoring which records heartbeats for 24 hours continuously and can tell us any slow or fast heart rate and abnormal heart beats.

If everything is fine it is possible that this could be just anxiety or you are more conscious of heartbeat when going for sleep.

This is good that most of the tests are normal and your blood sugar is well controlled. You do not smoke which is really good.

Please keep yourself well hydrated and continue your effort.

Hope this information helps.

Wish you good Health.

Take care
