Pain At A Point Towards Right Side Of Navel, Pregnant. Normal Ultrasound. Should I Go For MRI?

Hi

I have pain at a point towards lower right side to navel. I can only feel when i touch that particular area or its pressed against my jeans button. Its a specific point that hurts when pressed. Doctors have done lower abdomen ultrasound and hernia ultrasound but found nothing. I am very worried because it has been there for 7 months now and doctors can't seem to diagnose the problem. Also i am 8 weeks pregnant so i can't get CT Scan done. Is it ok to go for MRI? What do you suggest, please help!

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Since you got ultrasound of lower abdomen, i.e.only limited to uterus.
As you mentioned at a particular point , may be Mcburney point , means chronic appendicitis .
2nd reason of this type pain may be due to calculus in right side urinary tract system.
3 rd reason may be tumor on right side.
So first of all consult surgeon and get his opinion.
If necessary get in M R I .
Good luck.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
Pain to the right side of navel can be due to many reasons. If you have very severe pain then an appendicitis or renal stone could be thought of. If ultrasound has been done and is normal, then renal stone is ruled out. It the pain is not severe then other conditions like mesenteric lymphadenitis or bowel infection can be thought of.
Please get a surgeon to see you once for clinical examination.
MRI scan is not advisable during first 12 weeks of pregnancy. However, if surgeon feels it necessary, he may suggest you a MRI of abdomen after deciding benefits of investigation.

Hope this helps.
