Pain In Pelvic Area Weeks After Having Sex During Periods, Ultrasound Showed Fluid Filled Sac. What Is This ?

Hi I had sex March 24th and 27th on my period with Implanon. My periods have always been irregular but they've were coming almost every other month and lasted a month. When i had sex on my period, it only lasted for a week and a half/ 2 weeks.
Three weeks ago (April 26th)i had pain in my pelvic area and had an vaginal ultrasound (May 1st). The nurse said there was a fluid filled sac (meaning cyst...which I had to say for them to repeat) and that there would be another ultrasound in 6 weeks to make sure it's gone.
My question is: Is there anyway they could mistake my cyst for a pregnancy? (Ive also taken pregnancy tests and all came up negative)

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

By vaginal ultrasound I am guessing you underwent a trans-vaginal ultrasound which helps in clearly visualizing your uterus and a few other surrounding structures. This cyst was found in the uterus I am assuming?

When such an appearance is seen, the first thing suspected is pregnancy. Which is why the nurse has asked you to repeat an ultrasound in 6 weeks. During this period, if this is indeed an intrauterine pregnancy (IUP), the fetus would have grown and can be easily visualized. This would be a case of contraceptive failure.

The other possibilities are: a fibroid or polyp. In such a scenario the cyst will not change in size and can easily be diagnosed.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
