Pain In Ribs, Pain Between Collarbone, Shoulder. Prescribed Painkillers. Smoker. What Could It Be?

For the past couple of months I have had a pain in my ribs, sometimes I can feel it behind my left breast and also above my breast and between my collar bone and shoulder, In the last couple of weeks I have awful pain between my shoulder and ribs on my back, I have been to my gp twice and have been prescribed diphene and also told to take painkillers such as solpadeine , sometimes the pain eases a bit, I also have a diphene cream to use if I'm not getting any relief, I am a smoker and I have cut down to 10 cigs a day from 30 day, I have noticed that I'm coughing a lot more in the past couple of weeks, I'm really starting to worry now, I'm 45 years of age

Hi,
You are a smoaker. chest problems are common in smoakers . Smoak causes irritation of lung tissues creating blood changes in blood (Eosinophillia), chronic cough, bronchitis, &asthamatic tendency.
The chest painj wont go only with pain killers. you need compleate blood count, probably an Xray, & a chest specilist doctors consultation. The medicines will be decided as per clinical/pathological test reports.( antibiotics, diethylcarbamazine citrate preparation, cough syrup,& salbutamol inhailers are usually given too the patients according the seviarity of symyoms.)
Till then you should tyr to stop smoaking as early as possible, Starting breathing exersises, avoid oily, spicy, sour &cold food items.
Thank you.
