Pain In The Ankle. Have Diabetes, Overweight. Any Thoughts?

58 yr old white male, somewhat overweight , seldom exercise, Type II diabetic. My lower leg, where the shin joins the ankle, hurts a lot when I remove my sock, or anytime I exert downward pressure that sort of rolls the skin. One leg only, and you can press on the spot with no pain, only when pressing downward, like when I dry my leg by pushing the towel toward my foot . Any thoughts?

Diabetologist 's  Response
DEAR SIR/MADAM

UNILATERAL PAIN IN THE SHIN, ASSOCIATED WITH EDEMA SOME TIMES MIGHT BE VERY DANGEROUS. IT MIGHT BE DUE TO MANY CAUSES LIKE CARDIOVASCULAR, RENAL, METABOLIC, OR ORTHOPEDIC. BUT I STRONGLY SUSPECT DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS, IT MAY PRESENT WITH THE SYMPTOMS WHICH YOU HAVE MENTIONED.
SO I ADVICE YOU TO UNDERGO THE FOLLOWING INVESTIGATIONS
1. URINE ROUTINE FOR PROTEINURIA
2. ECG
3. CHEST X RAY
4. VENOUS AND ARTERIAL DOPPLER OF LIMBS (VERY IMPORTANT)
5. OTHER ROUTINE INVESTIGATIONS.
