Parotitis, Sore Face, Swelling, Unable To Open Mouth, Nasal Discharge. Treatment Options?
Went to the er today with my 9 yr old and she was dx. with parotitis . She has no fever and not vomiting so she said antiboticis are not needed at this time. Her face is sore and swollen and can barley open her mouth. She just did salt water and now her nose and throat are draining. We have been using ice for 15 mins every hour. Do you have any suggestions for comfort and when I should consult someone else.

hello. most of the parotid infections in childhood are due to viral infection and need no antibiotics. you should continue the salt water gargling and ice application that will help. please avoid and spicy/sour food. dont worry it will settle in a few days. please meet your ENT doctor is she develops fever, vomiting or the swelling becomes very tense ans painful. thanks
