Pin Worms, Itching, Took PinX, Experienced Some Relief. Can I Also Take The Mebendazole?

My boyfreinds s son gave us pinworms . VILE!!! I took PinX, experienced some releif from the horrid itching, but about 4 days later it s still there, alabeit to a lesser degree. So today I took another dose of PinX. I know you re suposed to wait 2 weeks in between doses but I just couldn t stand it. Now my doctor has called in a script for Mebendazole for me. Since I took PinX twice over the course of 4 days, can I also take the Mebendazole tomorrow, or should I wait a few days in between? I want this disgusting itching GONE! So far I have not had any side effects from the PinX...

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Pin x is pyrantel pamoate usually prescribed for Pin worm infection and is pretty effective. But you do not seem to be responding very well to this treatment. I would suggest you to go ahead and take Mebendazole 100 mg single oral dose which is highly effective.
I would like to stress upon maintenance of personal hygiene to prevent repeated infection.
Treatment of all members of the family is also important.
