Please Suggest A Remedy For Chronic Lungs, Breathing Problem And Inflammation Of The Lungs.

My husband has had a terrible mostly unproductive cough for over 3 years. His lung capacity has dropped drastically. He has had every heart and lung test imaginable including trips to Mayo. Initially doctors think he needs an antibiotic yet no one has prescribed one. He has worn a monitor for his cough, he has had two bronchoscopies, both resulting in punctured and collapsed lungs. When the pulmonolgists each saw the photos of his lungs they suggested an antibiotic treatment but when cultured, claim there is not enough evidence. I don t believe a decent sample was garnered either time due to his persisent cough throughout the procedure. It is becoming more and more difficult for him to breathe and he cannot exercise at all. Why would an antibiotic be such a terrible thing? I fear he has a fungus but what do I know. The only thing the doctors can concur on is that it keeps getting worse and there is much inflamation in his lungs. The photos were a very bright color that seemed to stun the last pulmonologist who punctured his lung. Following the lung punctures, the doctors want nothing to do with us. Help!

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of chronic infection in lungs, breathing problem and inflammation of the lungs which is a sign of respiratory tract infection along with pulmonary wheezing. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to take short course of antibiotics such as Amoxicillin or azithromycin for 5-7 days along with Antihistamine such as Chlorpheniramine. You should use room humidifier and vapor rub that will give benefits to you. Steam inhalation is very effective but you have to be very careful while taking it. You should use throat lozenges and go rinses with warm saline water. Take diet rich in vitamin B12. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. Get chest X-ray done and start treatment after proper diagnosis. Doctor may also refer you to pulmonologist for getting pulmonary function test done to monitor functions.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
