Post Menopausal Bleeding. Detected Cervical Stenosis. 5mm Uterine Lining. Could Not Get In For Surgery For Biopsy. Any Reason?

I had some post menopausal bleeding. They attempted a endometrial biopsy in the office and I was told that I have cervical stenosis. They did a vaginal ultrasound and my uterine lining is 5mm. This morning they took me to surgery to do a biopsy and when I woke up they told me that they could not get in and so they had to abort the procedure. The Dr. has not returned my call. How could they not do it surgically??

Hi ! Not infrequently cervical stenosis is found in post menopausal women. A post menopausal bleeding with a uterine lining of 5 mm ( believed to be the cut off limit for indication of biopsy ) does warrant an endometrial biopsy. It is possible that due to severe stenosis the dilators could not pass through the cervical opening. However, your gynaecologist may plan again for a dilatation under anaesthesia to go in and possibly also do a hysteroscopy if need be at the same time while doing a biopsy. So you may have to wait till your gyneacologist calls you back for a discussion on the matter. Good luck.
