Pregnant. Doing Keratin Treatment In Hair. Will This Harm My Baby?

Hi,
My name is Grisel.
Last Sunday I found out I am pregnant ! But there is something that really concerns me ! On October 21st I got a keratin treatment on my hair and I leave it on for 4 days. Since that date i Have been washing my hair with a shampoo that contains keratin protection and I was wondering if it could harm the baby in any way. I am only 9 weeks according to my last period date.

Hi,
If you have been using formaldehyde as part of the hair treatment, it could be harmful; standard hair treatments have not been studied adequately to show any relation to birth defects. Please do not use any further hair treatments if possible; at least consult your specialist if you wish to continue further. Though very little amount of chemical is absorbed through the scalp and as such the amount of damage done is very limited, it is yet to be known as to the severity of the effects and therefore it is good to be cautious. An anomaly scan will usually clarify. Hope this helps.
