Pregnant. IVF Clinic Advises To Take Prontogest Inj And Blood Thinning Inj. Is That Necessary?

I have just had a positive pregnancy test following IVF with a 5 day blastocyst embryo. Approximately 5 weeks pregnant.

The IVF clinic are insistent I continue to take prontogest injections and a blood thining injection without explanation. I have had a successful cycle before and the fertility issues are not on my side. I therefore don't understand why I need to continue taking these drugs into week 15/16 of pregnancy.

What are the risks if I stop now?

Hi Dawn
Thanks for writing to us.
The injections are given to support the growing pregnancy.
Progesterone creates the necessary hormonal support while blood thinners prevent miscarriage and thrombosis related complications.
Not necessarily continued till the 15 / 16th week , you should take them as prescribed, as it is evidence based medicine.
take care
