Pregnant. Pelvic Area And Back Pain, Shortness Of Breath. What Can Be The Reason Behind Extreme Pain?

My daughter is 5 months pregnant with her 1st child. She experiences unbearable pain in her pelvic area, back, and her side several times a week. She doubles over with the pain, it causes her to tear up, it wakes her from her sleep during the night when she tries to turn over in bed, her husband is awakened by her scream of "Ouch" when she tries to move in bed. She has asked her OB/GYN about this and was told it's "Normal". This is NOT normal. She has to be assisted with movement to get to a couch when it happens and once thought she'd have to crawl along the floor to get out of the bathroom. We are worried that she is being "brushed off" and not taken seriously. Any ideas what COULD be going on with her? She has no previous health problems and no pain problems before pregnancy. There is no bleeding or other problems other than shortness of breath at times. No one in my family has seen a pregnant woman hurting this bad, especially so early on in the pregnancy.
