Pregnant. Should I Be Concerned For Infection Even After Taking Flu Shot?
Hello, I am pregnant and I have been asked to get a flu shot to protect myself and my unborn baby from getting the flu. My doctor also said that when the baby is born I shouldnt let anyone who hasnt had a flu shot around the baby. My question is, if I get the shot which prevents me and the baby from getting the flu then why would I need to be concerned about people around her not haveing the shot. Thank You
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
After the flu shot, your baby will get only a passive immunity while you will be having an active immunity against the infection. So, it is best to avoid the baby's exposure to the possible sources of antigens so that he remains healthy.
