hi , im 17 weeks pregnant and my hairdresser noticed a bold spot about an inch in size yesterday , is this normal as i know hair can thin after and cause issues but during im not so sure, it is thankfully underneath quite close to my left ear so i can hide it but im really worried it will spread and i will loose all my hair , the hairdresser said it could be hormones or stress but should i see my dr any way , it really is worrying me and any advice would be great .
Dear nuttyclaire31,
Usually hair falls considerably during pregnancy but in a generalized manner not the way you describe.
I think your condition is not related to pregnancy. Mostly you have a condition termed alopecia areata. You have to visit a dermatologist to confirm such a diagnosis.
This condition is caused by an abnormality in the immune system. It is characterized by localized areas of hair loss. It is rarely associated with any other medical disorder. It is characterized by localized non scarring areas of hair losses. Most of these areas regrow their hair spontaneously.
There are a variety of treatment none of which can confidently Be predicted to impact the course of the disease. Cosmetic camouflage isan important consideration in treatment.
I hope these information were useful to you and I wish you best luck in your pregnancy.
