Pregnant, Have Odorless Green Discharge And Itching. Vaginal Swab Shows WBC, Epithelial Cells, Yeast And Candida Sp+. Conclusion?
Hi, I need help interpreting vaginal swab results. 37 weeks pregnant, experiencing odourless green vaginal discharge with only very occasional itching. Microscopy shows presence of WBC, epithelial cells +++, clue cells and gram stain absent, presence of yeast and candida sp +. Would you mind shedding more light? Thanks

Vaginal discharge during pregnancy is normal and is due to various hormonal changes which occur during pregnancy,
But green vaginal discharge along with itching indicates fungal infection.
You vaginal swab also indicates same finding.
You have candidasis, which is a fungal infection caused by fungus called as candida.
Yeast is also fungus.
The other cells which are mentioned in report are due to same infection.
As gram stain is negative you don't have any bacterial infection.

Hi nicola.dann , your case history is suggestive of vaginitis associated with fungal sp like candida . You have mentioned that clue cell is absent so i am ruling out bacterial causes from trichomonas sp ( which do present with greenish vaginal discharge with a fishy smell ) . To control your symptoms you need to control the infection and you should see your gynecologist at the earliest.
