Pregnant, Severe Pain In Abdomen, Radiating To Vagina. Monitored In Hospital. What Could Be Expected?

My daughter is due to have a baby mid December. Late this afternoon, she was having severe abdominal pain starting in her abdomen and shooting down into the vaginal area. She is being monitored in a CT hospital. What are some conditions that may cause these symptoms, she is a first grade schoolteacher? If her baby girl were to be delivered soon, what could we expect?
Thank you, June

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
May be due to,
1 False labor pain , this type of pain not so severe and discontinue after some time.
2 Labor pain , this type of pain starts from lower back , radiates to lower abdomen including vagina . As time passes intensity of pain increases. If true labor pain need not to worry.
As fetus will delver normal , if all things are normal (including pelvic diameter).
A neonatologist will take care of the new born , if condition arises.
Good luck . Dr. HET
