Pregnant With Incompetent Cervix. Did Cerclage. Having Contractions. Aminocentesis Suggested. Risks Involved?
Hello. My sister is in her 18th week of pregnancy. She has an incompetent cervix. They did a cerclage. She was having contractions yesterday and was admitted into a hospital for observation. THey are saying the baby is fine, and they have stopped the contractions with magnesium and some sort of sopository(sp). They are going to do an amneosentesis(sp) this afternoon to check for infection, though they don't suspect one due to the blood cell check they did yesterday but want to be sure. my question is, if there is no infection, they are going to do a procedure where they take out the bladder and the sack and put a band around her cervix. What is this procedure called and what are the risks involved?
Hello thanks for your query. The procedure is a repeat encerclage. This time, they might go for an abdominal route. The risks involved are the same as with any circlage procedure, namely, infection, bleeding, spotting and risk of miscarriage. All the best.
