Pregnant With Severe Pain Due To Urinary Tract Infection. Need To Get Checked?
Hi, I thought I was getting a urinary tract infection because I've had them in the past and know what they feel like. I have been drinking a lot of water and took some UTI medication. But after a few hours the pain has gotten worse and worse. I am really concerned because I am 6months pregnant. I had painful back pain and painful tightening in my abdomen. Should I go to the hospital or just stick it out? What's wrong with me?
Hello
Thank you for your query.
You cannot diagnose a UTI solely based on your prior experience, specially during pregnancy.
Severe or untreated UTI can lead to florid infections, often leading to preterm labour pains.
THe pain also sometimes could be in itself due to preterm labour or an impending miscarriage, which you mistook for UTI.
Please consult a gynecologist or visit an ER at the earliest.
Even if its a UTI, the diagnosis has to be confirmed and urine culture based antibiotics have to be started.
In case its not UTI and you are having the beginning of preterm labour, it is all the more reason to visit the ER soon.
Take care.
