Prescribed Penicillin For Throat Infection And Advised To Stop Breastfeeding To Infant. Doubted Pregnancy. Advice

Hello doctor I'm breastfeeding my 3month baby girl and my doctor told me I have an infection on my throat and the right tonsil has pus he scripted me penicillin 500mg 4times a day for 10 days and told me I should stop breastfeeding her but she won't drink formula I was wondering if the pus can go to my breast milk and affect her? Also I think I'm pregnant should I stop drinking that medication ? Please help

Hi,

Firstly if you are prescribed an antibiotic then breast feeding should not be stopped.There is rare possibility that the baby has loose motion due to the medication you are on but pus in the throat can never travel through the milk.

I would suggest that you get your examined and confirm your pregnancy status before you stop the medication.
