Problem With Ears, Low Pitched, Flat Hearing After Playing Fencing And Hitting Sticks Hard Together. Suggest
I play a sport called kendo, kind of like fencing. Today, when I was practicing with my friend, our sticks hit pretty hard together. When I got home and played on my piano, it sounded flat so I checked it with a tuner, and it was right on. I think my ear is messed up, everything sounds a tiny bit low pitched, flat, music wise.
General & Family Physician, Dr. Jay Patel's Response
Hi,
Based on the information you were hit by the stick very hard. It seems like you might have high impact injury.
The damage done need to be checked and physical examination is need to do so. I recommend you to visit your primary care physician and have it checked.
it may be noise trauma as a suuden high pinch soud damages the drum and nerve by inflamation and swelling you need to avoid music and sounds for 2 wk and the recovery will be there as it is temporary damage you can take short course of tapering steroids to clear it early
