Puncture Wound Flushed And Bandaged. Gauze Padding And A Ace Bandage. When Should The Bandage Be Removed? Suggest
My daughter had mountain biking acc and something punctured her thigh. ER kept us in waiting room for over 3 hr and then in room for another 3 hrs before actual treatment. Wound kept bleeding through covering. They would not stitch as a puncture wound. Large hematoma under wound. They flushed wound and put antibiotic salve and non stick bandage and a tonight gauze padding and a ace bandage to keep tight due to hematoma. This cleansing and wrapping took place finally about 4:30 yesterday morning, nearly 6 hrs after in ER. When can she remove non stick bandage and clean wound again? We removed the ace bandage and the layers of gauze used for padding are soaked in blood.
Hi
As the bleeding is heavy and haematoma has formed,it is better to explore the wound and tie the bleeding vessel.
If the bleeding has stopped better to keep the dressing for 24 hrs.It should be tight dressing, multilayered.
Please get the dressing done under your ER supervision.
Give her an antibiotic to prevent infection and anti inflammatory drug.
Wish her good health
Regards
