Reason For Pus-filled, Red Bumps On Back Of Head?

Hey there doc I have big red bumps on the back of my head and when I POP them puss comes out, but they don t go away and now I have two big bald spots on my head with no hair. I do shave my head with a electric razor but I clean it all the time what could this be and can I take care of this at home, and with what products. Thanks

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

You have bacterial infection of the scalp hair follicles. Shaving could be a reason behind these.

If I was your treating doctor I would have started oral antibiotics(from penicillin group e.g Amoxycillin ) for a week.

An OTC topical antibacterial ointment e.g 2% mupirocin twice daily would help in addition.

You can use a 5% cetrimide shampoo for a few days.
